Domestic Violence Fundamentals

Description: This course is an introduction to domestic violence concepts and how they relate to family and child welfare. Participants will learn about what domestic violence is, how to identify various tactics of abuse, and how domestic violence impacts children from birth through their adolescent years. We will also explore how domestic violence impacts parenting and how professionals can help promote resilience and healing in families experiencing this type of trauma.

Trainers:

Kristen WrayKristen is a Survivor Services Supervisor at Family Resources. She oversees the Domestic Abuse and Sexual Abuse programs in Iowa. Kristen has a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree and four years of experience working directly with survivors of violent crimes. Kristen serves as an agent for social change in the contracted region of Clinton, Jackson, Louisa, Muscatine, and Scott counties in Iowa. She is an active member of the Eastern Region CAP team, Jackson County Domestic Violence/Sexual Abuse Coalition, Clinton County Domestic Violence/Sexual Abuse Coalition, Jackson County Community Partnerships of Protecting Children as well as the Scott County Community Partnerships of Protecting Children, and the Scott County Child Abuse Prevention Advisory Council Additionally, Kristen also has five years of hospital work experience.

CrisCynthia DrakeCrisCynthia is a Homicide and Other Violent Crimes Specialist at Family Resources. She has been a Specialist working directly with survivors of violent crimes in the Homicide and Other Violent Crimes Program for the last five years in the Clinton, Iowa area. She is devoted to the work she does and is driven to empower them to be their best self regardless of the circumstances. She has a Bachelor of Divinity degree and an Associate’s degree in Social Science. Dedication and hard work is CrisCynthia's moto.

Registration will begin at 8:30 AM. Training will start promptly at 9:00 AM

There will be a Domestic Violence Intermediate course offered March 31, 2023 from 9am-12pm. If you wish to partake in both courses, you must register for each one separately.

Please note: Priority seating is provided to staff working within one of the DHS child welfare contracts, including: Family Centered Services (FCS); QRTP/Group Foster Care; Shelter Services; Aftercare Services; Supervised Apartment Living (SAL); Recruitment, Retention, Training and Support Services (RRTS); Parent Partners; Foster Care Youth Council. If you do not work within one of the child welfare contracts with the State, you may be bumped from the course and placed on a wait list.
