Behavior Management for Youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (Virtual)

During this training, participants will be exposed to material focused on a "function-based perspective' in understanding human behavior. This training will provide participants with initial information on the functions of behavior, on how drive assessments and related interventions and more. The training will also review key skills and techniques used to support individuals with ASD.

• Learn universal functions of behavior and how they present in youth with ASD
• Understand the basics of Functional Behavioral Assessments and how they inform treatment planning
• Learn behavior management skills and interventions for youth with ASD

Monica Kurtz - 
Monica Kurtz, MSW, LMSW, ASDCS has over 30+ years of working with children, youth, and their families in residential treatment and autism spectrum disorders. Monica currently works full-time for Grant Wood AEA 10 as an Autism Consultant where she supports 11 school districts. For 25+ years, Monica worked at Four Oaks in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. During her tenure at Four Oaks, she held a variety of roles and responsibilities-therapist, case manager, program coordinator, and program manager. While overseeing a residential treatment program at Four Oaks, Monica also was the program coordinator for a community-based social skill program for children and teens with ASD.  Monica’s educational background is in social work. She holds a BSW from Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa, and an MSW from the University of Iowa. Monica also obtained a graduate degree in Autism Spectrum Disorders from Penn State University. 

Registration will begin at 9:30am. Training will begin promptly at 10am. This training is scheduled until 12pm.

Please note: Priority seating is provided to staff working within one of the current DHS child welfare service contracts, including: Family Centered Services (FCS); Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP) / Group Foster Care; Child Welfare Emergency Services (CWES): Aftercare Services; Supervised Apartment Living (SAL); Recruitment, Retention, Training and Support Services (RRTS); Parent Partners; Foster Care Youth Council. If you do not work within one of the current DHS child welfare services contract, you may be bumped from the course and placed on a wait list.
