Management of Children with Sexually Inappropriate Behavior (Virtual)

This course provides caseworkers and direct care staff the skills to identify and manage children who are displaying sexually problematic behavior. Most of this material was developed by the University of Louisville’s Sexual Offender Treatment Program. This course will provide participants with the “red flag” behaviors that they need to watch for. It will also bring to light the role of trauma, cycles and patterns of the offending child and how to help these children to use them to manage their behavior.

Intended Audience: Family Centered Services worker (FCS), Recruitment/Retention Training Support workers, Residential workers (QRTP, Shelter, and Supervised Apartment Living (SAL)); Direct Care/Front-Line Staff, Supervisors; Beginner staff (less than 1-2 years of experience), refresher for experienced staff

*This course is focused on youth interaction/engagement, prevention, and resources

OBJECTIVES:

  • Family patterns and identification
  • Understand appropriate models of supervision
  • Clarification of offending vs.. “exploration”
  • Prevention of further acts of sexual acting out 
  • The treatment process for the victim, the offender, and the family system
  • Resources for the families

David Zidar - 
Dave has been working in child welfare since 1982 as an administrator, trainer and therapist. He worked in the Cleveland area for about 16 years. He was Vice President for residential services in Kentucky. He also has worked in public agencies at the executive level. Currently, he is an independent trainer and therapist throughout the country as well as a Area director in a foster care and mental health agency.  Dave has a BSW from Capital University, a MSSA from Case Western Reserve and a certification in Juvenile Sex Offender Treatment from the University of Louisville. He has worked as a therapist and operational director.

Registration will begin at 8:30AM. Training will begin promptly at 9:00AM. This training is scheduled until 12PM.

Please note: Priority seating is provided to staff working within one of the current DHS child welfare service contracts, including: Family Centered Services (FCS); Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP) / Group Foster Care; Child Welfare Emergency Services (CWES): Aftercare Services; Supervised Apartment Living (SAL); Recruitment, Retention, Training and Support Services (RRTS); Parent Partners; Foster Care Youth Council. If you do not work within one of the current DHS child welfare services contract, you may be bumped from the course and placed on a waitlist.
