Brain Based Care - Overview (Virtual)

This workshop provides an overview of brain and overall human development from infancy through adolescence. Participants will learn the importance of developmental ages, stages, and phases as well as how to identify differences between youth's chronological age and developmental age. This workshop will help workers create treatment plans and intervention in alignment with youth's developmental age. Participants will gain confidence in how to use their relationship with youth to support continued brain development.

OBJECTIVES:

• Understand basic brain anatomy, development, and functioning
• Develop a view of care through the lens of brain development and functioning
• Learn and understand brain integration as a goal for brain wellness
• Recognize six basic areas to establish interventions to care for brains at all stages

TRAINERS:
Maggie Hartzler - Maggie Hartzler, LISW, CTRP-C, is an independently licensed  social worker and Certified Trauma Practitioner with almost 20 years of experience in the mental health and direct care fields. Maggie's diverse experience includes clinical care, residential services, program development, and leadership. She currently serves as Director of Clinical Services at Tanager overseeing the Mental Wellbeing Clinic and School Based Programs. Maggie especially enjoys presenting to young professionals, leaders, and educators on ways they can support and understand brain health, trauma, and connection in the context of their relationships and environments. Some of the favorite roles Maggie plans in the world are that of mother, wife, and social worker. She is especially interested in and passionate about the power of connection to heal, grow, and nurture the world and see this power everywhere she goes. Through her interactions with others, Maggie hopes to inspire everyone she meets to know and realize their own power to heal, grow, and nurture themselves, others, and the world around them.

Registration will begin at 8:30AM. Training will begin promptly at 9:00AM. This training is scheduled until 11am.

Please note: Priority seating is provided to staff working within one of the current DHS child welfare service contracts, including: Family Centered Services (FCS); Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP) / Group Foster Care; Child Welfare Emergency Services (CWES): Aftercare Services; Supervised Apartment Living (SAL); Recruitment, Retention, Training and Support Services (RRTS); Parent Partners; Foster Care Youth Council. If you do not work within one of the current DHS child welfare services contract, you may be bumped from the course and placed on a wait list.
