THIS VIRTUAL TRAINING HAS BEEN SPLIT INTO TWO PARTS

This course will provide information about addiction, what it is and information about multiple pathways to recovery.  We will learn about the commonly used substances in Iowa and what they are, what they do and how they are used. We will learn about emerging drugs in Iowa and what to be aware of when working with families and understand the impact of substance use disorder on families and how to help them.

 

Intended Audience:

  • Family Centered Services worker (FCS), Recruitment/Retention Training Support workers, Residential workers (QRTP, Shelter, and Supervised Apartment Living (SAL))
    • Direct Care/Front-Line Staff, Supervisors
    • Beginner staff (less than 1-2 years of experience), refresher for experienced staff

OBJECTIVES:

•Describe what addiction is and the multiple pathways to recovery
•Recognize commonly abused substances in Iowa.
•Identify emerging drugs
•Use information shared to understand the impact on families and how to help substance affected families

TRAINERS:

Kellee McCrory- Kellee McCrory, LMSW, MPH, is the Director of Training for the National Resource Center for Family Centered Practice at the University of Iowa School of Social Work. She has extensive expertise in training, curriculum development, evaluation, survey development, project management, public health, child welfare, and substance abuse research and programs. Ms. McCrory is also the program manager for the Iowa Peer Workforce Collaborative grant which provides training and continuing education to peers (people with lived experience with serious mental illness or substance use disorder who are living well in recovery) in Iowa and provides technical assistance and support to Iowa agencies and organizations to enhance the employment, hiring, and retention of Peer Support Specialists, Family Peer Support Specialists, and Peer Recovery Coaches. Prior to her position as Director of Training, Ms. McCrory was as assistant professor of social work at Mount Mercy University, teaching courses in social work practice, diversity, research methods, group theory and practice, foundation and advanced field, and grant writing and is currently an adjunct instructor at the University of Iowa.

Registration will begin at 10:0AM. Training will begin promptly at 10:30AM. This training is scheduled until 12PM with a break.

Please note: Priority seating is provided to staff working within one of the current DHS child welfare service contracts, including: Family Centered Services (FCS); Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP) / Group Foster Care; Child Welfare Emergency Services (CWES): Aftercare Services; Supervised Apartment Living (SAL); Recruitment, Retention, Training and Support Services (RRTS); Parent Partners; Foster Care Youth Council. If you do not work within one of the current DHS child welfare services contract, you may be bumped from the course and placed on a waitlist.
